Signup Flow CRO
Cut fields, show value first, fix the second screen where everyone dies.
What it does
Signup and registration optimization for free trials, freemium, paid accounts, and waitlists. Starts from "what's actually required to let them use the product" and deletes everything else. Covers field strategy, social login, email verification timing, multi-step vs single-step, progress indication, and the post-signup moment where activation begins.
Use it when signup completion is under benchmark, when trial signup is a different problem from paid signup and the form doesn't differentiate, when email verification is killing conversion, or when a founder keeps adding fields "because sales wants them." Also use it to redesign signup that currently asks for company size before the product has earned the ask.
Outputs a reduced-field spec, multi-step flow if warranted, progressive profiling plan for later data collection, and the activation handoff. Pairs with `form-cro` (non-signup forms), `onboarding-cro` (the step after), and `paywall-upgrade-cro` (the monetization moment).
